"The first thing you notice when entering the old rectory is the friendly atmosphere - the buzz of conversation and the smiles on the faces of some of the residents and all staff. Although the building is old there have been many refurbishments and the result is a cosy and welcoming building. It has become "home" not just a (nursing) Home to my mother. The staff always show respect and consideration to residents and encourage them to join in activities. Special events are celebrated and everything is done to ensure that residents feel safe and secure. There are many very poor care homes for the elderly out there. We are so pleased we found The Old Rectory - a comfortable and caring place, a place where we are confident our mother is happy and well looked after. As she says "it's not home but it is the next best thing". What more can we say?"

"We looked at numerous nursing homes before we moved my mum in law here from her previous home where she was unhappy and inadequately cared for - two homes stood out from the rest; we are truly glad we chose The Old Rectory. From the moment we had our initial chat with Lynn Blacklock the Matron in Charge we have had nothing but good experiences. She and her Deputies, Ann Marie and Monica and a host of supporting nursing and ancillary staff, carers, cooks and cleaners are doing a sterling job. The place is spotlessly clean and fragrant and the residents are treated with respect and consideration and their individual needs are all taken into consideration. The staff always have time for a word when we go in and are cheerful and positive in their approach. I feel that the fact its privately owned goes a long may towards making this place so special - its old-fashioned in the nicest possible way. Residents get their hair done weekly free of charge thanks to the owner and they are taken on various outings in the warmer months. In addition they have Christmas parties and concerts and regular visits from outsiders with something to offer. The staff have time for the residents individually. For example, at Christmas, Sue purchased all Mum's Christmas cards and promised to spend time writing them with her much to my surprise and delight. Mum's room is spotlessly clean and tidy and her laundry is returned pressed and fresh and not misshapen (at the previous home I resorted to taking it all home as items were either returned stretched or discoloured, or simply lost!)Food is freshly cooked and the daily menu looks lovely and is always on display. We cannot name all the staff but its great that there is continuity with no casual agency workers employed; all the staff seem to stay for years on end which must surely say a lot about The Old Rectory. I would highly recommend this Nursing Home - long may it continue to be privately run with such a lovely family atmosphere!"
